TECH-FEST

Tech-Fest is a free two-day family event held at Sinclair Community College. It has been organized and conducted by the ASC of Dayton since 2003. Tech-Fest focuses on STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. For years members of the Dayton Engineers Club have volunteered at the event or had an interactive booth.

Be ready to be amazed by 70+ exhibits and live presentations. This hands-on weekend will have the entire family wanting to come back for years!

Stay tuned to find out what’s in store for Tech-Fest 2025!

BOY SCOUT MERIT BADGE PROGRAM

This year, the Engineers’ Club reintroduced an outreach program with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). They had always seen a remarkable response from the scouts, but the program came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, the Engineers’ Club revived the program in collaboration with the two BSA Councils, Miami Valley and Tecumseh.

The Club, which boasts a concentration of experienced engineers among its membership, invited scouts to earn Merit Badges in various sciences such as Aeronautics, Electronics, Energy, Engineering, Inventing, Nuclear Science, Space Exploration, and Sustainability. These badges are not always readily available to the scouts but are well supported by the members of The Engineers Club.

A total of 48 scouts attended and signed up for multiple badges, seeking a total of 81 badges. The scouts were required to meet their mentors at the Engineers Club for three planned sessions from October 7th to November 4th and to complete the BSA workbook by the time of the last meet. In the end, 64 badges were awarded, resulting in a 77% success rate!

We recognize and thank the time and effort contributed by the Club’s Mentors and send out our congratulations to those scouts who were awarded these badges.

SCIENCE FAIR

A science fair is a competitive event where students present science projects they’ve created, often to win prizes.

Students typically choose a topic of interest, research it, and then conduct experiments to answer a scientific question or hypothesis.

The projects can cover many different fields of science, such as biology, chemistry, physics, environmental studies, and is an opportunity for students to do an independent science project following either the scientific method or the engineering design process. Students conduct their research and then present their results at a science fair. Science fairs occur at different levels, including classroom, school-wide, regional, state, and international.

For years many of our members have volunteered to be judges or volunteered to help out in some way.
